Travel Soccer FAQs

The following are some of the questions that our travel coordinator most often gets regarding our Travel Soccer program. What is travel soccer?

Travel soccer is the next step up in competitive play after our in-house program.

How old does a player have to be to play travel soccer?

Our tryouts are open to all players in age groups U9 (2015 birth year) up to U15 (2009 birth year). Every effort is made by PAYS to have our players and teams playing within their age appropriate groups and divisions during league play.

Why should my child play Travel soccer?

Travel soccer is generally more competitive than In-House soccer.  Better competition and more training usually result in better player development.  In-House teams change every season whereas Travel Teams are together for almost a full calendar year which leads to more team chemistry and strong player relationships.

How competitive is travel soccer?

PA West travel teams are entered into one of 3 divisions. D4 (most competitive), D5 (moderately competitive), D6 (developmental).

Where do travel teams play?

  • D4 teams can play teams from anywhere in PA West (Butler, Bethel Park, West Allegheny, North Allegheny, etc....)
  • D5 and D6 teams will play in the East District of PA West (Monroeville, Murrysville, Penn Trafford, Connellsville, Kiski, etc.......)

What is PA West?

PA West is the state association that governs youth soccer in our half of the state.

When do travel teams play?

Travel teams play games on Sundays. Games typically will not start before noon.

When do travel teams practice?

Travel teams usually practice twice per week. The nights are chosen by the coach.

How long is the travel season?

Our travel teams will play in the fall (September and October) AND spring (April and May) seasons.  Teams may start practice before the actual season starts.

What is the Plum Kickoff Classic?

The Plum Kickoff classic is a travel soccer tournament hosted by Plum Area Youth Soccer before the fall season. This year's tournament will be on August 26-28. All Plum travel teams will participate in this annual tournament.

What is the Edinboro tournament?

The Edinboro tournament is an end of spring season tournament held in June and hosted by PA West. The tournament is played at Edinboro university. Many Plum travel teams choose to participate in this annual tournament.

Important Message

Players will NOT be assigned to a team unless we receive a copy of their birth certificate. 

After completing your registration, please choose one of the following ways to provide us your each of your child's birth certificate:

  1. Scan and email them to [email protected]

  2. Mail a copy of each player's birth certificate to:

If you submitted your player's birth certificate to Plum Area Soccer for a prior season, then there is no need to re-submit a birth certificate.
