Travel is made up into
three divisions 1, 2 and 3 for boys and A, B and C for girls.
Division 1 and A is for the most skilled and developed
players. Division 1 and A are very competitive.
Division 2 and B are moderately skilled players but
competition is still high.
Division 3 and C are developmental teams and teaching
skills and player development should be primary factor.
Plum Area Soccer is a member of
PA West Soccer League and players and families travel to other areas
of PA West Soccer areas. Typically you only travel in the
Pittsburgh area. (Usually under a 1 hour
drive). In the past, teams have traveled as far as
Erie and Kinzu. There are 2 travel seasons
Fall and Spring. In each season you have 8 games. 4 home games and 4 away
games, so you are only traveling for 4 games each season. In the fall we
usually only play up to U-14 girls and boys due to high school teams but in
the spring we play up to U-19 boys and girls. Plum Area soccer starts travel
teams at the age of U-10 boys and girls provided it doesn’t harm our in
house program. We try to place every child on a team provided there is room
and people to coach.
Most of the kids traveling have gone
thru the in-house program for their primary development. Please remember
Plum Soccer is a volunteer organization. So without help, we can not provide
a soccer experience for our children. We like to make soccer fun and not
work. If the kids have fun, they will continue to play soccer into high
school. Plum Area Soccer currently has a boy’s team that started travel at
the age of U-10 and is still playing in an adult league. This team is
coached by Fred Lucas.
It is up to each coach and team as to
how many tournaments you go to there are many to choose from, you can go to
PA West web site for a list of tournaments. The last week in August is the
tournament that Plum Area Soccer hosts.
Remember, we are all volunteers, so
without your help we can not make Travel Soccer a successful program. We
field as many teams as we have kids and coaches. We try to place every kid
on a team if possible. Plum Area Soccer has tryouts for travel teams at the
end of May beginning of June every year. We send flyers out to every school
and post it on the cable channel.
