President’s Message
PAS PROUD IN 2007
Twenty years is a long time! In 1987 Plum Area Youth Soccer Club
was formed to foster youth soccer in our borough. Every spring and fall
since then we have gathered some of the finest young people in Plum Borough
at the soccer fields at Larry Mills Park. We offer these players the
opportunity for a spring and fall activity in a safe, affordable, drug free,
violence free atmosphere. A place where our children have had moments of
glory and moments of despair, a place where all children are considered
equal and all activities are aimed at just one goal.
Plum Area Youth Soccer Club is an outstanding organization
supporting over 600 families each season. Every year we put our funds back
into our players and our facilities. We build our own buildings and work on
the fields. Besides collecting registration money each season, we
occasionally have a fundraiser. We do this because we are not financially
supported by Plum Borough. We do not ask special favors, nor do we complain
when other organizations get what we do not ask for. After 20 years, we
believe we know best what our organization needs. The only game we wish to
compete in is the game of soccer.
A good place to judge our product is at the end. In this case at
the high school level, which Plum plays in the highest classification in the
WPIAL. All of these players have come through our program. They have been
very successful for years. Anytime I read an article about them they are
always referred to as a “perennial power”. Yes, we have a long way to go,
but we have come a long way also.
Every year we try to improve our facilities. Notice the kick
board, and the murals painted. We are currently working on a plan to
refurbish our fields entirely and also looking into lighting for the fields.
The cost of what we do has not been reflected in any increase in
registration cost. We have held the same rate for one child over the past 6
years.
Our volunteer members often go unrecognized, unappreciated and
forgotten. We ask little of the public and parents beyond support for the
players. We are here because we believe in God, our children and our
community. And if the club progresses as much in the next 20 years as it has
in the first 20, what a club it will be. Long live Plum Area Soccer and Plum
Borough.
